Bodywork skill sprint

Train bodywork with shape, surface, and proof standards.

Bodywork is a high-value SkillCoach skill because small mistakes become visible later. This sprint trains damage assessment, panel prep, filler control, blocking discipline, and readiness for primer or paint.

Five-day training sprint

Each day gives the learner one controlled rep and one reviewable proof artifact.

Day 1

Damage read and repair plan

Identify panel damage, access, repair boundary, substrate, corrosion risk, and when replacement beats repair.

  • Proof: marked panel photos and written repair plan
Day 2

Panel prep and metal/plastic correction

Practice cleaning, sanding, feathering, minor dent correction, edge control, and surface readiness.

  • Proof: before/after prep photos and checklist
Day 3

Filler mix and application

Mix correctly, apply thin controlled layers, shape before overbuilding, and avoid pinholes or poor adhesion.

  • Proof: filler application photo and mix/process notes
Day 4

Block sanding and shape review

Block the repair, preserve body lines, check highs/lows, and avoid waves or overcutting.

  • Proof: guide coat/blocking photos and manager shape review
Day 5

Primer readiness decision

Inspect feather edge, shape, pinholes, scratches, contamination, and whether the panel is ready for primer.

  • Proof: final readiness checklist and pass/repeat decision

Readiness proof

Manager review should be based on visible evidence, not confidence alone.

The learner must prove

  1. Can identify repair boundary and replacement risk.
  2. Can prep without contaminating or over-sanding.
  3. Can apply filler in controlled layers.
  4. Can block for shape instead of just making it smooth.
  5. Can document what needs senior review before paint.

Best fit

Auto body, performance, restoration, marine, RV, and powersports shops where panel shape and finish quality matter.

SkillCoach standard

Practice, proof, review, then readiness.

Use the sprint to decide whether the learner is ready for supervised work, needs a repeated rep, or should move to the next skill.
