Apprentice Technician Weekly Review Template

Use this template to decide whether an apprentice is ready for more responsibility, needs another week of reps, or should stay supervised on a workflow.

Updated May 23, 2026For independent auto repair shops

What is this?

This is a weekly review framework for apprentice technician development. It gives the lead tech or owner a simple way to review real work without turning training into a vague performance conversation.

How to use it

  1. Choose the workflow trained this week.
  2. Collect proof: inspection notes, measurements, photos, or checklists.
  3. Review safety, accuracy, documentation, and repeatability.
  4. Pick one correction target for next week.
  5. Record the readiness decision.

Weekly review fields

Workflow trainedExample: brake measurement, oil service inspection, battery test, tire inspection, or comeback documentation.
Proof reviewedList the documents, photos, measurements, or work orders used in the review.
Safety checkAny safety miss, lift issue, torque concern, PPE problem, or supervision requirement.
Documentation qualityCould an advisor and customer understand what was found and what should happen next?
Readiness decisionIndependent, supervised, repeat sprint, or hold back from this workflow.

Manager note

Do not promote confidence faster than proof. A calm apprentice with weak notes still needs more reps. A nervous apprentice with clean measurements and safe habits may simply need more repetition.

Turn this into a live shop training sprint

Skill Coach turns the idea into daily reps, proof reviews, reminders, and a manager-ready progress trail.
